The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has strengthened its international presence by signing cooperation agreements with three prominent Asian diamond trading platforms: the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, and the Tokyo Diamond Exchange. The formalized arrangements took place during the 41st World Diamond Congress in Singapore, signaling a deliberate effort to forge closer commercial links with critical markets in the diamond industry.
Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi, the QDE director, spearheaded the negotiations, outlining a structure for members to build business connections and pursue joint initiatives. Under the terms of the agreements, participants will arrange mutual visits, take part in each other’s auctions, tenders, and industry gatherings, thereby establishing more direct trade pathways between Qatar and three of Asia’s most significant diamond trading centers.
The collaboration extends beyond simple trade expansion, with a deliberate focus on reinforcing buyer confidence in natural diamonds and colored gemstones. The exchanges will actively promote compliance with industry standards, including those established by the Responsible Jewellery Council and the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties. This commitment to transparency and ethical practices supports Qatar’s broader ambition to become a reliable center for global diamond and gemstone commerce.
These new partnerships highlight Qatar’s evolving function as a bridge between Asian diamond suppliers and international purchasers. The agreements could help position Doha as a stronger link between Asian trading centers and the wider global diamond and gemstone industry. Their long-term success will hinge on consistent involvement in auctions, tenders, and industry events—efforts that could further cement Qatar’s standing in the worldwide market.
The director emphasized that the alliances demonstrate Doha’s capacity to serve as a connection between Asian markets and global trade networks, backed by clear and ethical business operations.
With these connections, QDE now maintains direct relationships with three of Asia’s busiest diamond trading hubs, each offering unique advantages. Singapore’s reputation for streamlined trade operations, Shanghai’s rapid market growth, and Tokyo’s expertise in premium gemstones provide a balanced foundation for cooperation.
