The Qatar Diamond Exchange has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Borsa Diamanti d’Italia, establishing a strategic partnership between the two bourses. The agreement was finalized during the CIBJO Centenary Congress in Vicenza, Italy, which took place from September 4-7, 2026. Ghanim Nasser Al-Saadi, Director of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, and Luigi Cosma, President of Borsa Diamanti d’Italia, were the signatories. Both institutions aim to expand their networks and strengthen ties within the global diamond industry.
Framework for Mutual Cooperation
The MoU outlines a framework for integrating the memberships of both exchanges, promoting commercial relationships and enhancing collaboration. QDE and Borsa Diamanti d’Italia will facilitate mutual introductions, joint participation in industry events, tenders, auctions, and viewings. A program of reciprocal visits is also planned to support these efforts. The partnership builds on QDE’s existing agreements with the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, and the Tokyo Diamond Exchange, marking its expansion into the European market.
Borsa Diamanti d’Italia, founded in Milan in December 1926, is Italy’s oldest trade association and the nation’s central institution for diamond trade. It is celebrating its 100th anniversary alongside the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO). The event provided a symbolic venue for the partnership, aligning the two century-old institutions in their shared goals for the industry.
Commitments to Industry Standards
Both parties have pledged to promote consumer confidence in natural diamonds and precious stones through international and local initiatives. They also committed to upholding recognized industry standards, including the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties and those led by the Responsible Jewellery Council. These standards are important for ensuring ethical practices and transparency in the global diamond supply chain.
In a statement, Al-Saadi emphasized the partnership’s potential to create new opportunities for members. He highlighted Italy’s respected position in the diamond and jewelry sector, noting that the collaboration would facilitate expertise exchange and commercial connections. Cosma, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of interconnected trade centers, praising Qatar’s role as a well-regulated market with a clear commitment to industry standards.
The agreement follows the MoUs signed between QDE and the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, the Shanghai Diamond Exchange and the Tokyo Diamond Exchange, extending the Exchange’s network of bourse partnerships from Asia into Europe.
