Luxury jewelry designer Pacharee Sophie Rogers, of Thai-Swiss heritage, is reshaping perceptions of pearls in high-end design. Raised in Thailand, her passion for gemstones stems from her father, Gerald Vincent Rogers, a leading gemologist renowned for advancements in cutting methods, heat treatment, and mabe pearl cultivation.

International gemstone trading trips with her father during childhood shaped a unique design philosophy that blends Bangkok’s jewelry legacy with global modern luxury. Rogers’ brand, Pacharee, converts irregularly shaped pearls into modern works that adopt natural flaws and artistic uniqueness.

A Childhood Surrounded by Extraordinary Pearls

Rogers was raised in a gemstone trading family, giving her access to exceptional pearls from Japan and other key jewelry markets. Her father collaborated with renowned jewelry houses like Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels, and held a special interest in keshi and Biwa pearls.

These pearl types often feature irregular forms, unusual textures, and distinctive natural patterns, which later became fundamental to Rogers’ creative vision. Rather than seeing imperfections as defects, she views them as traits that lend personality to individual pearls.

An Unexpected Beginning in Jewelry Design

Rogers started in advertising before finding her passion in jewelry design. Her shift into creating jewelry occurred by chance when she made several pieces as accessories for a promotional photoshoot while expecting her first daughter.

The positive reaction to her jewelry motivated her to pursue jewelry design professionally, leading to the founding of Pacharee. Currently, she splits her creative work between studios in Bangkok and Zurich, merging her Thai background with worldwide artistic influences.

Finding Inspiration in Nature’s Smallest Details

Nature remains one of Rogers’ primary creative sources, occasionally sparking inspiration through everyday family moments. During a holiday on Spain’s Menorca island, her young son gave her a flower that reminded her of elongated Japanese freshwater pearls.

This encounter inspired her Birch Floral earrings, which reinterpret botanical forms through unconventional pearl arrangements. Another creation, the Mare Polka Dot earrings, originated from a shell discovered in a souvenir shop in Thailand’s Phang Nga province.

Celebrating Imperfection Through Contemporary Craftsmanship

Pacharee’s collections feature jewelry made from solid 18-karat gold and 18-karat gold-plated silver, often using pearls with highly irregular shapes. Rogers personally inspects hundreds of pearls to find complementary forms and textures for her designs.

Her style highlights curves, bumps, and natural variations instead of hiding them. Mother-of-pearl also plays a significant role in her collections, enabling carving, cutting, and sculptural exploration.

Rogers’ rising creative reputation shows how inherited gemstone knowledge can develop into a modern design language while maintaining traditional respect for precious materials. Her work shows Thailand’s ongoing connection with the global gemstone industry, exposing customers to pearl types commonly ignored in conventional jewelry lines.
